It was 35 days full of 51 exciting games as Major League Soccer took over the fields of ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex during the 2020 MLS is Back Tournament.


Check out a few of the highlights that helped bring this event to life:

  • The 2020 tournament marked the restart of the league’s milestone 25th season and a return of professional sports, bringing approximately 750 players and 500 MLS staff from 26 teams to ESPN Wide World of Sports.
  • Guinness World Records recognized Major League Soccer with the largest single location professional soccer tournament for the MLS is Back Tournament.


  • Over the course of the last 6 weeks, ESPN Wide World of Sports Sportscape Cast Members put down over 1250 gallons of white paint, covering over 70 miles of white field lines.
  • Additionally, on the 3 match fields, over 210 total hours of mowing accumulating roughly 100 cubic yards of glass clippings, which were composted for their rich nutrients.


  • Throughout the tournament, though they couldn’t attend in person, more than 15,000 fans participated in virtual watch parties for the chance to be displayed on the video boards behind the goals of each game.
